The 70th Anniversary of The Roanoke Chapter of the Girl Friends Inc. was celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 3. at the Holiday Inn, Valleyview with Doris Ennis and Patricia Henry serving as co-chairs.
Special interests include: a scholarship, established to support minority students, as well a scholarship to a Community College Student. This year, The chapter donated an abundance of umbrellas, winter hats, gloves, scarfs and t-shirts to Addison Middle School.
The Chapter is also a Life Member of the NAACP. In addition, the Roanoke Chapter has been recognized as one of the top contributing chapters to The Girl Friends Fund, which provides 4-year scholarships to aspiring students. The band EnVisions was also a highlight for all to remember.

The Roanoke Chapter, is one of the oldest social/civic organizations of African-American Women in the United States. The local Chapter had its organizational meeting in 1948 at the home of its surviving Charter member, LaVerne Fuller-Prunty.
