At the Roanoke Chapter of Girl Friends, Inc. Annual Scholarship Luncheon on May 4, two local scholarship recipients and one national recipient accompanied by their parents were in attendance. The $500.00 scholarship was awarded to Jacori Kittrell, a senior at E.C. Glass High School, Lynchburg, VA. Jacori excelled academically, and is involved in many extracurricular activities, including president of the SCA, captain of the football team, and member of the National Honor Society. His counselor stated that his unique personal and inclusive skills were admired by peers, teachers, administrators, and staff, and he plans to attend Christopher Newport University in the fall.
The $1000.00 scholarship went to Jacqueline Coles, a senior at E.C. Glass and a student at Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) and is graduating from CVCC with an Associate Degree. She has an outstanding GPA of 4.23 at E.C. Glass and a 3.8 CVCC. Her counselor was impressed by her leadership skills, maturity, strength, courageous spirit, and resourcefulness. Jacqueline is involved in many communities and extracurricular activities including the National Honor Society and E.C. Glass Ambassadors. She also volunteers at the Salvation Army and plans to attend Lynchburg University to complete her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and become a Registered Nurse.
The Scholarship Committee, a National Organization, receives from local chapters one nominee with outstanding academic and leadership achievements, as well as service commitments. The nominee from the Roanoke Chapter became one of over 20 scholars selected to receive scholarships for this year. Jaylin Davis, a senior at Heritage High School, was awarded a Girl Friends Fund Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 which will be renewed for up to 4 years, provided she continues to satisfy eligibility requirements. Jaylin has maintained a GPA of 4.36 while enrolled in many dual enrollment and advanced placement courses. She is a member of several clubs including the National Honor Society and has enrolled in the University of South Carolina to pursue a degree in Exercise Science.
