Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church recognized Harold Finney as 2018 Father of the Year during the morning service on Sunday, June 17. He was presented with a plaque, a special song and more.
Harold Finney was born May 1941 in Roanoke son of the late William Henry and Hazel Hancock Finney. He attended Roanoke City Public Schools and graduated from Lucy Addison High School in June 1959. After graduation, he served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force and received an Honorable Discharge. Upon completion of military service he worked at General Electric and attended Cornett Business School where he received a certificate in Computer Programming.
Harold continued his education by attending Virginia Western Community College receiving an Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. This lead to his employment with the U.S. Postal Service where he worked for 27 years until retirement in 1992. During he received additional computer technology training at the University of Oklahoma.
He has been a member of Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church for over 70 years, serving as president of the Young Adult Choir and currently as assistant chairman of the Trustee Board. He loves to travel, fish and enjoys planning trips, family and class reunions.
Harold is married to Delores Glover Finney and they have one daughter, 5 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and other proud relatives and friends.
