Harris becomes Lodges’ first African Americn Exalted Ruler
During a historic election, (April 2015) Donald Lee Harris, Sr. became the first African-American to be elected to the position of Exalted Ruler (ER) in the 50-year history of Camp Springs Elk Lodge #2332, located in Camp Spring, MD.
Mr. Harris brings a wealth of experience in community service and outreach to the Elk Lodge. He is a veteran Honorably Discharged from the US Army who worked for the US Postal Service as a supervisor for mail processing before retiring in 1992. Following that, he served as a job coach, job developer and behavior therapist for PSI Associates. In addition to his occupational skills and expertise, Harris has been associated with several service organizations–to include: Redemption Lodge #24 PHA (as financial secretary, 1988 to present); Order of Eastern Star Redemption Chapter #14; and Past Potentate; Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, to name but a few.
The Roanoke native is a 1959 graduate of Lucy Addison High School and is excited and enthusiastic as he looks forward to performing his duties as the new Exalted Ruler. His plans are to continue and strengthen the fellowship, outreach and community partnerships established by the former Exalted Ruler.
