Sherman P. Lea, Jr. (center), of Roanoke, president of the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice (NABCJ) opened this summer’s National Conference in Birmingham, Alabama, with a walk across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. The bridge located in Selma, Alabama is a historic bridge where civil rights leaders fought and died, led by Martin Luther King Jr. and the late Congressman John Lewis. The conference is held annually in various cities and draws professionals from all over the Country.
