The Roanoke Chapter of Omnia Bona Club, Inc. is happy to announce the 2016 Jean Nicholas Watson Scholarship Award Recipients as: Miss Taylor Kelso, a graduate of Northside High School and Miss Kariah Lee, a graduate of William Fleming High School.
Taylor Kelso is the daughter of Mrs. Tricia (Perry) Hash and Mr. Keith Kelso and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kelso and Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Fairfax. She is the Valedictorian of her class, a member of the National Honor Society, DECA, FCCLA, FBLA and YADAPP (Youth Alcohol Drug Abuse Prevention Project).
She has been a member of the Track and Field team for four years and served as captain. She has been a volunteer for Special Olympics, the NAACP youth group and for food and toy drives. Outside of school, Taylor has been working at Sears.
Taylor plans to attend Virginia Tech in the fall of 2016 where she plans to study multi-media journalism. She wants to learn about other cultures while reporting on meaningful subjects and hopes to become a news anchor.
Kariah Lee is the daughter of Mrs. Monica Lee Sydnor and the late Mr. Lewis Sydnor, III and granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Sydnor, Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lee.
Kariah has been on the Honor Roll consistently and has received recognition from the House of Delegates in Richmond for her academic achievements. She has been a cheerleader and was elected captain of the Varsity Squad. She actively participated in the Youth Ministry at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church Eden, N.C. She presently attends First Baptist Church-Gainsboro and works at Wendy’s as a cashier.
Kariah plans to attend Norfolk State University in the fall of 2016 where she will study Psychology and Social Work. Her goal is to join the FBI in the Behavioral Analysis Department.
