“Keeping It “100” for Real, was the theme as Lee Graves Sr., celebrated in grand fashion a birthday bash most fitting for the classic centenarian that he is.
The event, held March 7 at the Virginia Transportation Museum, on Norfolk Ave. in Downtown Roanoke, was attended by many friends and family from near and far. Most family members refer to Mr. Graves as “Uncle Lee.” He is the only remaining child of eleven born to Blanche and Robert Graves of Arlington, WV.
Lee Sr., was married to Flordy Goode Graves for 59 years. From this union were born four children, Lee Jr., Jacqueline, Charlene and Gayle. He has six grand children and five great grand children.
A collection of music of the 40’s and 50’s was compiled and played by D.J. nephews Chris and DeAnthony Graves. Mayor David Bowers presented Lee Sr., with a proclamation designating March 7, 2015, “Lee Paris Graves Sr. Day.
On the centenarian’s actual birthday, (March 13) The Railroad Retirement Board presented Lee Sr. with a “Certificate of Achievement” for more than thirty years he served as executive chef for four Norfolk and Western Presidents on the private car. Also in recognition of his 100th birthday, Delegate Sam Rasoul gave Lee Sr. a “Commendation” from the Virginia House of Delegates.
The family and Lee Sr. are thankful for all who contributed to the celebration of this remarkable occasion.
