Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Beta Chi Omega Chapter, hosted the Northern Western Virginia Cluster Meeting on Oct. 30 at the Roanoke Higher Education Center.
The meeting was held virtually and in-person, and attended by 757 members of the Northern Western Virginia Cluster, comprised of 19 graduate and 14 undergraduate chapters and stretches from Alexandria in Northern Virginia, to Christiansburg in Southwest Virginia.
Beta Chi Omega was pleased to host Mid-Atlantic Regional Director Jennifer King Congleton; Northern Western Virginia Cluster Coordinator Marguerite E. Taylor and 15 members of the Mid-Atlantic Region leadership team in person. Greetings were delivered virtually by Roanoke Mayor Sherman Lea and music was rendered by the Beta Chi Omega Chorale. The day was full of informative workshops and presentations.
Service is the heart of Alpha Kappa Alpha and as a result, Cluster Service Project Chair Adriane Tasco was proud to announce that chapters had sewn and donated 993 shirts and dresses made out of pillowcases to provide clothing for children in need in Haiti. The Pillowcase Project is a part of Alpha Kappa Alpha’s international program, “Target 5: Global Impact.”
Beta Chi Omega was honored to have hosted the conference and to have shown our guests the beautiful sites found in the Star City. Katina Hamlar is president of Beta Chi Omega and Benecia Hale-Hilton was the cluster meeting chairperson.
