-Thousands of people flocked to the Local Colors festival on May 21st to celebrate cultural diversity in our area, marking a successful return of the organization’s signature event to Elmwood Park. The event began with the Procession of Nations, with people representing their nations raising their country’s flags and often wearing traditional dress from their cultures.
Festival goers were treated to dozens of food and merchandise vendors, educational booths, and exciting performances that included dances, martial arts, live music, and more. Whether digging into Indian curry, sipping on a beverage from the international beer garden, or listening to a Celtic music live performance, everyone seemed to have a great time.
Local Colors plans to host two more cultural events this year, so mark your calendars now. Their third annual Hispanic Heritage Month celebration will take place on Saturday, Oct. 1 from noon to 3 p.m. at Wells Fargo Plaza downtown. Local Colors is collaborating with CommUNITY Arts Reach to host an African Cultural Celebration on the evening of Saturday, Nov. 5. More details about both events will be shared as the dates get closer.
