Our present world order, built on competition, winners and losers, and “heroes,” is a system that fosters mass bitter rivalries, ego-tripping and vendettas by one disgruntled mass toward another which blocks the cohesiveness and cooperation necessary to promote the best interest of the whole. This atmosphere is not conducive to spirituality, an indispensable part of the equation as the triune nature of mankind is equally physical, mental and spiritual. Over or under-development of any one of the three creates an imbalance.
A person who is physically perfect and appealing to the eye but has limited mentality and/or no heart or conscience is seriously flawed. Likewise, one who is mentally brilliant but undeveloped fully in body and spirit is equally imbalanced. For to be super-spiritual while physically and/or mentally undeveloped, one would be too heavenly to be of any earthly good to anybody.
As science and technology continue to advance with lightning speed, it is imperative that the inner controls of spirituality be instilled early in today’s human machines (our infants, children and youth in particular) otherwise we are becoming like shiny new vehicles being mass produced with sleek, shinny exteriors and lots of computerized glamour and flare–but with no brakes or steering. This societal nightmare continues as we increasingly stockpile unfathomable weapons of destruction while daring other nations to even think about it.
This process of thousands of years of mismanagement, greed and control of the masses by a few, can never be remedied by election, or by any other succession of occasional good, well-meaning officials alone. It requires ongoing Divine leadership, devoid of individual figureheads of power who will inevitably remain or become embroiled in power struggles.
In our perpetual fight for various freedoms we forget to prepare ourselves for how to handle them once obtained, or to familiarize ourselves and others with what constitutes abuse, by whom and by what standard of measurement? “When nothing else works, read the directions,” remains one of my favorite instruments of advice.
Ironically, the history of such devisive tactics through the centuries was featured in part during a Bi-Centary Celebration presentation by the Baha’is of Roanoke and Vacinity during an annual observance held this past Sunday at Roanoke’s Jefferson Center.
Until 1844 (the beginning of the Baha’i Era) in the United States, the whole promise of peace was mere prophecy. Today, however, we have Divine Blueprints (a spiritual GPS) that millions of people on every continent are following, on different levels of understanding and commitment, while deepening together on the actual Writings- of the Holy Figures Themselves (through the centuries)–as interpretation of them by anyone is forbidden –“let the hearer understand.”
Earlier initiations likewise, as with those of today, lend focus on a total reverse of the competitive, rivalrous systems of hierarchy around which past as well as many present world orders pivot. Our own nation’s recent Presidential election fracas continues to vividly expose this flawed system to the entire world! Also, upon arriving home from Sunday’s annual observance, our current US President was reporting in detail with such pride, his (personal) most recent warring victory overseas.
Can you image having local, state, and national elections without candidates running against one another–and with no money involved? Can you fathom, upon winning these positions, receiving no monetary compensation for the honor of serving? This process has been perfecting on an ongoing scale for over 100 years as a pivotal part of the new world order of peace!
Its most recognized introduction to the United States came first on May 23, 1844, the same date of the world’s first mass communication, (Morse Code) message between Baltimore MD and Washington, DC, tapping out the message, “What hath God wrought?”
My personal introduction to it came over 45 years ago–through the statement: “The Baha’i Faith is a new, independent, universal religion whose aim is to revitalize mankind spiritually, to break down the barriers between peoples, and to lay the foundation of a new, universal, world-society based on the (twin) principles of justice and love.”(Investigate!- 1-800-22-UNITE)
