The Roanoke NAACP Youth Council will present its second annual Black History Program honoring local heroes. The program entitled, “The Roanoke NAACP Youth Impactors of Excellence Awards” will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 22, at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 1415 8th Street.
Honorees are: Ruth Claytor, Carolyn Patterson, Jeff May, Archie Freeman, Sherman Lea, Jr., Coach Bobby Martin, Anita Price and Rev. Dwight Steele & Connie Steele for their untiring service to the community and the impact each one has made on the lives of the youth in the Roanoke Valley.
In addition to the recognition of honorees, the program will feature a community youth gospel choir and youth praise dance teams.
Please support the Roanoke NAACP Youth Council in this fundraiser and history making program. The Youth Council, an outgrowth of the Roanoke Branch, is growing in membership while learning about fighting injustices, social/political issues and leadership skills. However, funds are needed for training experiences, attendance at conventions, etc. The community’s support is needed.
Please plan to come out and support these distinguished honorees. In addition, please tell your friends and family members about the program. The Youth Council will certainly appreciate your patronage and support. For more information, please contact Council President Blake Barnes (494-5860) or Youth Advisor, Gloria Randolph-King (562-0632).
