Public meeting to mpdate Downtown Plan Neighborhood-related happenings and planning…
The City of Roanoke’s Department of Planning, Building, and Development is currently in the process of updating the Downtown Plan. The first was held on October 27 and the next will be held on November 28 at the City Market Building beginning at 6 p.m. The most recent plan for downtown was completed in 2002. The city did preliminary work on the plan update in 2014 and 2015 with several input meetings and a public survey. The results of that initial effort will be utilized as a foundation for the planning process as additional input is gathered over the next several months. The city hopes to finalize the Downtown Plan by the spring of 2017 with public hearings to be held by the Planning Commission and City Council.
Fiscal Year 2017-18 Neighborhood Development Grant Program public meeting…
The Roanoke Neighborhood Advocates and Office of Neighborhood Services cordially invite you to attend an important public meeting scheduled for Thursday evening, Nov. 10, beginning at 6:00 in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC – Room 159) on the 1st floor of the Noel C. Taylor Municipal Building, 215 Church Ave., SW. During this public meeting, city staff will inform the public of annual revisions of the city’s Consolidated Plan and anticipated funding levels in HUD programs for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2017. This meeting will also mark the start of the FY2017-2018 Neighborhood Development Grant Program.
Immediately following this general session, Neighborhood Services and Roanoke Neighborhood Advocate representatives will hold a separate session on applying for FY2017-2018 Neighborhood Development Program grants in the same location. Information to be discussed includes estimated funding to be available for the 2017-2018 program year, how to apply for funding, allowable uses, limitations, record keeping, and other policies regarding neighborhood grant funding.
Potluck Dinner & Awards Celebration…
The Roanoke Neighborhood Advocates (RNA) and Roanoke City Council are pleased and excited to announce the 2016 City Neighborhoods’ Potluck Dinner and Awards celebration will be taking place on Friday, November 11, 2016 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Jefferson center’s Fitzpatrick Hall. This program recognizes and honors the outstanding contributions, excellence and accomplishments achieved by neighborhood organizations and civic individuals who have partnered with city departments, schools, nonprofits, businesses, institutions and others to: make physical and/or social improvements to our neighborhoods,
connected neighbors and/or neighborhoods with one another, and/or built the capacity of their neighborhood organization to better serve our community.
An impartial committee of volunteers recruited by the RNA will select winners from forty five (45) award nominations received from the community. City Council members to recognize and honor this year’s award winners will present trophies. The event is free but registration is requested to make certain enough tables and chairs are setup for all of those desiring to attend.
