The chances of a restaurant being successful these days significantly increase when the owners are passionate about their product, service, not afraid to take chances and genuinely care about the consumers. The latest restaurant to fit that bill is Hers & Mine.
Located at 2004 Orange Avenue in northwest Roanoke, Twella Stewart (Hers) and Derrick Stewart (Mine) are primed and ready to the serve the community. Before they were at their current location the husband and wife team did mobile catering for a several years. “We are doing real well so far and have served over 600 customers since opening a month ago,” Derrick said. “We still have Hers & Mine mobile units and will continue to serve certain areas about town.”
This new establishment offers over two-dozen items to choose from with nothing priced more than ten bucks. Mac & cheese, potato salad, green beans, onion rings and collard greens are excellent options for anyone leaning towards vegetarian.
Derrick, at 47 is the main cook and says he has been “rattling pots” for about 35 years. In 1992, he attended The John Wilkerson Culinary Art School located in Atlanta (GA).
Knowing this Derrick didn’t have to go far to find a team of passionate individuals. Most of the Hers & Mine team are related proving “the family that stays together prospers together.”
Phillip “Pop” Nichols has been with us from day one…Kiara started a few weeks ago,” Derrick said referring to some of his family members. Hers & Mine caters all events with no event being to small. Whether it be a fried bologna sandwich ($3.75) or a 12 inch Philly Cheese Steak ($8.75), Hers & Mine more than likely has something to fit your taste and budget. The team agrees that it’s been a long journey to get to this point but now that the ball is rolling there is no turning back.
