New Eagle Scout for Troop 456 at the Rocky Mount United Methodist Church,(UMC) the Charter Organization.
Kyle D. Dunnings, who started in Scouting in Cub Pack 111 and was chartered by American Legion Post 111 of Rocky Mount in 2008, moved on to Boy Scout Troop 111 in 2012. After Troop 111 shut down in 2014, Kyle continued in Scouting by joining Troop 456. There he continued his advancement of Star Scout, Life Scout and now the top of Scout Advancement, Eagle Scout, in October of this year! He built beautiful picnic tables for American Legion Post 111 for his Eagle Scout Project.
Kyle served as Asst. Patrol Leader and Patrol Leader while in Troop 456 and played rec basketball, participated in Bridge to Life Champs, developing leadership skills, and working for his church in other activities. When Cub Pack 111 and Troop 111 we’re restarted, this youth (now a young man) was supported by his aunt Phylis Dunnings and grandfather Freddie Dunnings who can be credited for never giving up on seeing him become an Eagle Scout.
Retired District Executive for this area, Andre Peery, who has been part of the early years in this young man’s Scouting experience is especially proud of Kyle Dunnings for his persistence in achieving this award.
As an Eagle Scout, Kyle is will have extra benefits, one of which is an automatic promotion by the military in rank after basic training for both enlisted and officers. If when appling for college you indicate on your application that you are an Eagle Scout, many schools will give your extra points towards your acceptance.
At anytime in your career that Eagle Scout appears on your resume you are given preference over others who do not have that distinction.
What makes Scouting special is clearly indicated in the mission of Boy Scouts of America: To prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law: “Oath, On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight. A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent. If you read this and have flashbacks, or can remembered the words without reading them because you were a Scout, a parent, a grandparent, Scout Leader, a brother or sister, or close relative, etc. you just proved that the mission of Scouting lasts a lifetime!
