Brigadier General Fletcher Washington, a native of Fredericksburg, VA served four years enlisted in the Army National Guard as a 12B Combat Engineer before graduating cum laude from Norfolk State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration in May 1992. He also graduated from Florida Tech with a Master’s degree in Logistics Management in May 2000 and from National Defense University with a second Master’s degree in Joint Planning and Strategy in June 2010. As a Distinguished Military Graduate of the Reserve Officer Training Corps, he received a Regular Army commission in the Transportation Corps. He converted from the Regular Army into the AGR program, as a Major, in September 2003 with no break in service.
His military schooling includes Basic Training, 12B/ Combat Engineer Advanced Individual Training (AIT), Light Leader Course, Transportation Officer Basic Course, Combined Logistics Officer Advanced Course, Logistics Executive Development Course, Army Force Management Course, Command and General Staff College, Reserve Component National Security Course and the Senior Service College.
BG Washington has held a variety of command and staff positions in both 90A/Logistics and 50A/Force Management. He served as Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer in 181st Trans Battalion in Mannheim, Germany; Battalion in Frankfurt and Hanau Germany; Battalion Operations Officer and Company Commander in 11th Trans Battalion at Fort Story, VA; as Combat Developer in US Army Combined Arms Support Command (CASCOM) at Fort Lee, VA; Deputy Chief of Air Operations in Coalition Forces Land Component Command (CFLCC) in Kuwait; Brigade Operations Officer in 166th Regional Support Group in Puerto Rico and Baghdad, Iraq and Force Development Officer for the 65th RRC also in Puerto Rico; Transportation Force Integrator and Division Chief of the Structure & Requirements Division in the Office of the Chief, Army Reserve (OCAR) in Arlington, VA; Battalion Commander of the 196th Support Battalion at Fort Shafter, HI; Division Chief of the Congressional Operations Division, Office of the Chief Legislative Liaison (OCLL) in the Pentagon; Brigade Commander of the 647th Regional Support Group (RSG) in El Paso, TX where he deployed his Brigade Staff to Kandahar Airfield (KAF), Afghanistan serving as Garrison Commander of KAF; Commander of the 4th Expeditionary Sustainment Command (ESC), Mission Support Element (MSE) in San Antonio, TX. He most recently served as Chief of Staff of HQDA G-3/5/7 Force Management in the Pentagon. He currently serves as Deputy Commanding General (DCG) of the 80th Training Command in Richmond, VA.
BG Washington’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, 7 Meritorious Service Madels, Joint Service Commendation and 3 Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medals, numerous other campaign medals and ribbons, 2 Meritorious Unit Citations, the Army Superior Unit Award, the Parachutist Badge and the Army Staff Identification Badge.
BG Washington is married to the former Rhonda Price, the daughter of the late Mary Price and granddaughter of Dorothy Rhodes all of Roanoke. Rhonda, a career Civil Service employee with the Department of Justice. They have a 19-year old son, Fletcher Valdez Washington II, a sophomore currently on a full Army ROTC scholarship enrolled at the University of Tampa.
