The Roanoke Chapter of Chums, Inc. under the leadership of President, Francine Claytor McLaughlin, is a group of women who invest their time and use their influence to make the Roanoke Area community and society a better place to live by listening to our children and doing their part to enrich their lives. In fact, Chums, Inc. nationally support children because they are the cornerstone to our future.
A Roanoke Chapter of Chums, Inc. delegation (Francine McLaughlin, Stella Carpenter, Betty Jones and Evie Brandon) delivered non-perishable food items (beans, collard greens, macaroni cheese, sweet potatoes, etc.) to the Roanoke Eureka Recreation Center on Tuesday, Nov. 13. The non-perishables will be used to create Thanksgiving dinner baskets to be given to several of the center’s after-school care program (PLAY) participants. To complete the dinner baskets, turkeys will be donated by another local non-profit organization.
The Eureka Center’s Positive Learning and Adventure for Youth (PLAY) program, under the direction of Jason Hariston and staff (Bette Harris-Ramsey, Dorothy Wilson and Antonio Wallace), is designed to give children a place to receive homework assistance and participate in enrichment activities while enjoying a safe, welcoming and positive after-school care environment.
