Nearly 300 local men and women attended the 2016 Roanoke Go Red For Women Luncheon on Thursday, May 12 at Hotel Roanoke, raising $41,000 to prevent and fight heart disease in women. Anthem BlueCross BlueShield, Kroger, Aetna and Haley Toyota sponsored the luncheon.
Chaired by Donna Littlepage, senior vice president for Accountable Care Strategies at Carilion Clinic and Chief Financial Officer at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, attendees visited exhibitor tables, received free health screenings, heard inspirational speakers, enjoyed a delectable lunch and learned how to prevent heart disease for themselves and their families. Anthem BlueCross BlueShield sponsored the Go Red Casting Call area, recording attendees’ personal stories of heart disease, stroke, and prevention.
The inspirational program included the 2016 Roanoke Go Red Luncheon Chair, Donna Littlepage, local heart attack survivor Twila Hays who shared her story, local stroke survivor Tammie Toler and keynote speaker Dr. Charles “Bud” Conklin, Chief of Dentistry for Carilion Clinic and Associate Professor and Thread Director for Virginia Tech – Carilion School of Medicine.
The event was emceed by Jean Jadhon of WDBJ7. All funds raised through the luncheon benefit heart disease and stroke research and prevention education for women.
