The Roanoke NAACP Youth Council made an awesome presence at the “6th Annual Impactors of Excellence Awards program” held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at High Street Baptist Church, where Rev. Serenus T. Churn is pastor. Each youth member demonstrated excellence as they served as Master and Mistress of Ceremonies; presenters of honorees, devotion leaders, performers and ushers. Middle school member, Olivia Davoll served as Mistress of Ceremonies.
To begin the program, First Vice President Kameron Washington-Brown, led the NAACP chant. The Psalms III Praise Dancers from Hill Street Baptist Church and the Kara Praise Dancers from High Street Baptist church were excellent and the William Fleming/Patrick Henry HS Gospel Choir, under the direction Jeff Williams, was awesome. It was all about the youth and they really made an IMPACT that Sunday!
The 2019 Impactors were quite expressive in their words of appreciation for the honor and just amazed that the youth planned and implemented this program to honor them.
The 2019 honorees were: Vickie Briggs, Dawn Bryant, Reyhan Deskins;. Xavier Duckett; Peggy Sue Mason, Salena Morton, Sonnya Preston, Jerel “Tank” Rhodes,, Rev. Dr. Johnny Stone and Deidre Trigg. Each gave a mini sermon including words of encouragement and praise to God for all that they have been able to do to impact the Valley’s youth.
The youth expressed thanks to the supportive audience, comprised of family, church members and friends of the Impactors and the Youth Council that packed the church with special thanks to Patrick Curtis for playing the powerpoint of the honorees.
Advisor Gloria Randolph-King and Branch President Brenda Hale were overwhelmed at the youth’s performance and overjoyed with the outcome. The community has truly been IMPACTED by these youth and will continue to see good things from them in the future.
Chance Staples is Council president; Danielle Davoll was program chairperson.
