The Roanoke NAACP Youth Council installed the newly elected officers on Sunday, Aug. 11, at the historic Lawson Building and given the oath by NAACP Branch President Brenda Hale.
The 2019-2020 officers are: President- Chance Staples; First Vice President-Kameron Washington-Brown; Second Vice President- London Paige; Secretary-Daphenie Joseph; Treasurer-Eleyse McFalls; Advisor-Gloria Randolph-King; First Asst. Advisor, Lorena Wilson and 2nd Asst. Advisor, Dawn Bryant. Appointments of committee chairs and other officers will be assigned at the upcoming meetings.
The Youth Council is very appreciative of the community’s support throughout the year. Many of you have witnessed 20 plus graduating members as they stated their plans following graduation and received their NAACP Kente stoles on Friday, May 31 at the NAACP Citizen of the Year Award Banquet. Everyone is currently attending college!
Special appreciation is extended to all past officers for the work they did during the past year and to all of the faithful chapter chairpersons and members for their dedicated service.
The Council is currently preparing to join the Roanoke branch in the upcoming “Drive Thru Voter Registration Drive on Saturday, Sept. 7 at WTOY and will be selling hot dogs, nacho ships, drinks and baked goods where the event will be held from 10am-4pm.
Come out and register to vote! If you are already registered, come and help the youth with their fundraiser.
The Youth Council meets the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month at 6 p.m. at the Lawson Building and new members are always needed as great things are happening!
