Roanoke Parks and Recreation has successfully completed the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) accreditation process for the fourth time since 2008. NPRA’s Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) is the national accrediting body for parks and recreation agencies, and its accreditation process is recognized as the gold standard for excellence in the field.
To achieve CAPRA accreditation, agencies must meet a rigorous set of standards in areas such as governance, planning, programming, and operations. A team of CAPRA-accredited professionals found that the department met or exceeded all 154 standards, and evaluated Roanoke Parks and Recreation. Roanoke Parks and Recreation will be awarded during the 2023 NRPA Annual Conference to be held in Dallas, Texas in October 2023. This marks 15 years for Parks and Recreation being a CAPRA Accredited agency.
