The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration presented Ruth D. Hunt with a Certificate of Appreciation Award at the 127th Constitution Congress of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution Headquarters, at Constitution Hall Washington, DC. Hunt received the award Friday, June 22 from the Department of Defense (DOD), James T. Jackson, U.S. Major Gereral, U.S. Army, Retired, and Nancy Zwetsch, NYS Regent, NSDAR.
Hunt was acknowledged for her personal and tireless devotion to the State of New York’s Veterans. Her passion for genealogy, coupled with the DAR’s mission to support the nation’s veterans earned her the title Chair of the Veteran’s Committee for the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, New York City Chapter.
Hunt created and established a Monthly Genealogy Group providing workshops for New York City Veterans. This enthusiastic group meets at the Manhattan Harbor Veterans Memorial Hospital on East 23rd Street, NYC. She has provided Genealogy Workshops to over 170 Veterans since January 2017. Colleagues, Joan Banbury and Janice Coffey have supported this effort by volunteering to assist the Vets during these well attended workshops. In addition, the DAR NYC Chapter provides lunch, clothing, toiletries and other donations throughout the year.
The genealogy workshops are very informative and offer an opportunity to trace family lineage and family/health patterns so they can take steps for prevention and early detection.
