Unity is defined as: “the state of being united or joined as a whole; harmony or agreement between people or groups.” By no far stretch of the imagination does it mean uniformity as perceived by many.
When we review history from its recorded beginning to the present day we find that struggle and warfare have existed throughout the ages and epochs of man’s life, regardless of origin or glorified purpose-–often given when the real purpose is less honorable. But fighting on any level appeals to man’s lower (animal) nature rather than to his higher intellectual or (highest) spiritual nature which together constitute the triune (3-part) nature of human existence–endowed only in man! We habitually choose to prioritize at least one of the three which imbalances the whole. As war appeals to our lowest nature it reduces us to ignorant, animal mentality no matter how progressively sophisticated through time. However if war is “the child of ignorance” it can be educated out of existence. If on the other hand it is a “natural instinct of aggression” then man is doomed to terrible total destruction in ever increasing blood-baths, according to historians.
Unity also entails a willingness to explore the innumerable unfamiliar multicultural lines of this comparably new nation that harbors a microcosm of the diverse populations of the earth! It may need to start with tolerance, a nasty sounding word for some but a crucial first step for others that can lead to fellowship and love.
In every stage of physical growth from cradle to grave man needs loving guidance, from parent/guardian, family, mate and through various stages and institutions of education and employment–with Spiritual Guidance through it all, whether or not we choose to seek or follow it.
If we but observe nature we find that the earth completes its cycle in 365 and a quarter days before continuing to renew the same cycle. In like manner mankind has cycles of great events and occurrences that are eventually forgotten after a New Cycle begins.
In past dispensations including the one currently ending, religion has caused more wars than it has prevented. But now racial and political wars are taking precedent. There should be ample evidence today that warfare, cruelty and bloodshed are caused by hatred, human greed and selfishness by a few.
As the political aspects of peace cannot be isolated from the general question of human relationships, the Divinely orchestrated GPS for a new maturity of mankind calls for the evolution of a true world society in which peoples and nations maintain their individuality yet yield their particular interests to the welfare of humanity as a whole. Through their diverse contributions they can create a world culture richer and more rewarding than any known in history. National rivalries, jealousies and plotting will cease, racial hatreds and prejudice will be replaced by racial friendship, understanding and cooperation and the causes of religious disagreement will be permanently removed for “So powerful is the Light of Unity that it will illumine the whole earth!” (Investigate! – 1-800-22UNITE)
