The Roanoke Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is happy to announce the crowning of Ms. Sydnee Evans as Miss Jabberwock 2015. Sydnee is in the ninth grade at North Cross High School. She is active in many organizations and is a 9th grade class rep as well as a charter member of the Diversity Club.
It was an exciting evening at the Jefferson Center on Friday, May 1, under the direction of Greg Addison of Hair Attitudes, six contestants brought certain parts of Cinderella alive on the stage and the audience enthusiastically loved the program and the joyous songs and dance routines of the contestants and escorts.
Cora Carpenter worked with 31 students to make Jabberwock Kids an outstanding addition to the program that was taken to a new level.
Judges for the talent and question and answer series: Dr. Barbara Pendergrass, retired VT Staff member, Brie Jackson, reporter for WSLS and Archie Freeman, principal at William Fleming. We are so very proud of these professionals for taking the time to be part of our Jabberwock and for being such positive role models to our children,” said Roanoke Chapter president, Diane Jones.
At the Awards Ceremony, the following students were given awards: Nikki Giovanni Academic Excellence Award to Ms. Brooke Gray; “The boys to Men Award” was presented by Gamma Alpha chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. by Maceo Toney to Dontese Johnson; Leadership Awards were presented to Ruth Payne, and Quincy Green; Congeniality Award to Kendra Corpening; Stage presence to Kai Washington-Brown, the Citizenship Award to Cameron Ali Johnson and Monica Hackett. Greg Addison presented the Director’s Award to Sydnee Evans and Phazhon Tyrese Nash and the Distinguished Gentleman’s Award went to Juwan Washington.
The runner up’s for Jabberwock 2015 were: Ms. Monica Hackett, first runner up, 2nd Runner Up Kendra Corpening and 3rd Runner up – Kai Washington-Brown.
Jabberwock 2015’s Chair, Patricia White-Boyd and Tanisha Mash, 2nd Vice President and the members of the sorority salute the contestants, the escorts and all of the participants for a wonderful musical experience.
