Total Action for Progress (TAP) is proud to announce the recipient of the second annual Cabell Brand Hope Award: founder and long-time president of Apple Ridge Farm, Mr. Peter Lewis. The award will be presented to Mr. Lewis during TAP’s annual luncheon on October 18, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Downtown Roanoke, that will take place from 12 noon – 1:30 p.m.
Mr. Lewis started Apple Ridge Farm in 1975 with the intent of establishing a camp and retreat center to provide enriching, educational outdoor experiences for less fortunate children. Since then, he has given over 80,000 children the opportunity to participate in workshops, retreats and other academic programs at the farm. An educator for 34 years, Lewis also worked for Roanoke City Public Schools—from which he retired in 2000—serving as co-founder of the present-day Noel C. Taylor Academy alternative education school for troubled students, among other roles.
