BLACKSBURG – Jarrad Henderson, a video producer and director at Virginia Tech, was recently named the Multimedia Photographer of the Year by the Michigan Press Photographers Association.
Henderson was a photographer for the Detroit Free Press for three years before he came to work in Virginia Tech’s Office of University Relations (http://www.unirel.vt.edu/) in July 2014. The Michigan Press Photographers Association is a 200-plus member organization. The Michigan Pictures of the Year competition judges entries in still, video, multimedia, and editing from throughout the state.
In addition to receiving first place as photographer of the year, Henderson’s feature “Body Image” was awarded first place in the multimedia feature category, his story “Detroit Bankruptcy” earned first place in the multimedia news category, and his “Mr. Basketball” won an honorable mention in the same category. He also is one of three finalists in the Michigan Associated Press Media Editors 2014 Newspaper competition in the category for best sports photo. Winners in that competition will be announced at the Michigan Associated Press banquet in May.
Henderson has a master’s degree from the University of Missouri and a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University.
