Monica Moore was compelled to open a luxury spa where local women could go for relaxation as well as beautification. Virtues Day Spa, located at 3027 Peters Creed Road Suite A, provides a host of services including natural nail manicures, pedicures, facials, facial waxing, and massage.
Monica grew up in Roanoke, graduated from William Fleming High School and attended East Tennessee State University. As with most college students, she worked at various jobs including as a forklift operator. However the job that led to her present endeavor started at “Brighter Image” where she earned her Nail Tech certificate from the Commonwealth of Virginia and later became a Licensed Esthetician.
“Margaret Bright was instrumental in my opening my own business. She took me under her wing, and like a mother bird, sent me out to fly on my own when she thought I was ready,” Monica recalled. Not only did Bright encourage her to start out on her own, but she also allowed her to take the clients who wanted to continue getting services from her.
“She was a great mentor who changed my life and made me decide what I wanted to do with my life, and she continues to be my mentor.”
Monica takes very little credit for her success; but rather states that she has been blessed to encounter people who eagerly and freely supported her. She had several anonymous benefactors who she stated that without them, she’s not sure she could have started her business. One such person was the daughter of one of her clients when she worked at “Brighter Image.” After the mother’s death, the daughter was there for her, helping her get set up and prepared for opening. The daughter told her that if her mother were still alive she would have done the same thing. The name “Virtues Day Spa” stemmed from the virtuous people who are part of Monica’s life and she appreciates it daily.
Everyday when she opens the door to her spa she pauses at the door to give thanks to the Higher Power for placing certain significant people in her life. She and her daughters, Jonee and Chey, operate the spa and for that she is thankful that they were willing to take the leap of faith with her in this endeavor as well as allowing her to see them becoming professionals.
“Margaret Bright played an important role in my professional growth and continues to do so. If she says I should do something, I do it. I show the same respect for Diane Speaks who has also been very supportive of my endeavors,” Monica remarked.
“Virtues Day Spa” officially opened in September however the ribbon cutting ceremony was held Tuesday, October 17th with Vivian Sanchez-Jones, city council woman, representing the mayor’s office.
“It was truly a delightful experience,” Monica remarked. “Everyone was so warm and welcoming.”
Virtues Day Spa is open Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
