City Councilman Sherman Lea and son, Sherman, Jr., look forward to a day of service and basketball at the Lea’s High School Winter Classic Basketball Challenge.
Footballs, helmets, trophies and a photo with President Barack Obama are just a few of the items adorning Sherman Lea, Jr.’s office. For him and his father, sports and community are part of their everyday lives. They hope both aspects will be well represented at the Lea’s Winter Classic High School Basketball Challenge at the Berglund Center (former Roanoke Civic Center) Jan. 24 at 2:00 p.m.
“My goal first is to get people excited again that we are going to be playing basketball at the Berglund Center, especially our local athletes, to showcase their talents in a large arena. Secondly, we want to continue our community involvement,” said the elder Lea.
Several ESPN top 100 ranked high school players will be playing in the Winter Classic. Game Scheduling includes: 2:00 p.m.-William Fleming vs Rockbridge County; 4:00 p.m.-Virginia Episcopal vs L.C. Bird; 6;00 p.m.-Patrick Henry vs Christiansburg; and at 8:00 p.m.-Oak Hill Academy vs Cape Henry Collegiate. Admission: $10.00, good all day!
