Pilgrim Baptist Church is pleased to announce its 2019 Woman of the Year, as Mrs. Marvelean Sparrow, a North Carolina native who has been a member of Pilgrim for more than 57 years! She has served on the Senior Choir, Missionary Society, and Sunday School, worked with Vacation Bible School and currently serves on the Deaconess Board. She has quite the green thumb and enjoys flowers and gardening as well as baking pound cakes and especially sweet potato pies. She is the widow of the late Joseph Sparrow and the proud mother of four children and has several grandchildren. As a young married mother, she chose to give up her career in education to stay home and raise her children. She is a quiet unassuming lady with great strength and faith.
