Sixty-one hearty souls took to the streets in the Loudon/Gilmer, Hurt Park, and West End neighborhoods on April 29, praying for the community and learning histories of area facilities during the Church Women United in the Roanoke Valley’s Love Thy Neighbor Walk with the youngest at age 5 to those carrying canes and walking sticks – and some riding in cars!
These individuals stopped at Loudon Avenue Christian, Jerusalem Baptist, and West End United Methodist Churches to learn about the outreach ministries of each congregation. They also visited McCray Court which was established by the Northwest Neighborhood Environmental Organization in 2002 to provide affordable housing for seniors and now houses a host of additional community services as well. Along the route, the prayer warriors stopped at various prayer powerpoints to ask for God’s blessings on our neighborhoods. The event was a great success, and plans are already underway for CWU’s 2024 Love Thy Neighbor Walk.
