The Roanoke YMCA is releasing updated details about the new before-school program that they will hold this fall. Roanoke City Public Schools recently announced that middle schools would have a later start time for the 2024-2025 school year.
The YMCA said each middle school would have the option of utilizing before-school care with them. There will be a $50 registration fee. After that, members will pay a weekly fee of $45, while non-members will pay $60. Financial assistance will be available.
During the before-school program from 7:30 until 9:30 a.m., staff members will provide/supervise both physical and education activities as well as study time. The program is scheduled to run from August 20, 2024 until June 5, 2025.
“You have a lot of parents who have to be at work at 8 o’clock, and for a middle school to start at 9:30 would create a gap,” Branch Executive Director for Gainsboro YMCA Jonathan Pait said. “I think still when you’re in the 6th grade many parents still don’t feel fully comfortable with leaving their child at home.”
Roanoke City Middle School before school sites: YMCA (The YMCA will provide transportation to Lucy Addison Middle School and John P.
