The Roanoke Branch NAACP was chartered on July 10, 1933 and for 88 years has made a difference in the Roanoke Valley. We strive daily to improve the quality of life addressing issues of Education, Health, Political Empowerment and continue to fight work place discrimination. We know some significant gains have been made, but the struggle continues. We must remain dedicated to be the change that we seek. We must be conscious of justice and equality, touching the minds of those who are unconscious when it comes to equal justice for all.
Recently elected to serve the term 2021-2022 are: President Brenda L. Hale, 1st Vice President Gloria Randolph-King, 2nd Vice President Sheila Herron, 3rd Vice President Lorena Taylor Rollins Wilson, 4th Vice President Peter Wonson, Secretary Joan Wages, Treasurer Sherman Holland. Elected Executive Committee members include: Frances Berry, Edwina Dickey, Manuel Dotson, Rev. Thomas Harper, Dr. Mike Heller, Rev. Dr. David Jones, Cleo Sims and Anita Wilson.
President Hale, at the Branch first meeting of the year appointed the following team members to these important Committees: ACT-SO Mrs. Gloria Randolph-King, Armed Services/Veterans Bernard E. Johnson, Communications/Press/Publicity Shelonda Arthur, Community Coordination Mrs. Lorena Taylor Rollins Wilson, Economic Empowerment Tiffany Jordan, Education Peter Wonson, Freedom Fund Cleo Sims; Housing, Jamoria Pughsley, Labor and Industry Sonnya Preston, Legal Redress President Brenda L. Hale, Membership/Life Membership Frances Arlette Berry, Political Action Rev. Dr. David Jones, Religious Affairs Rev. Thomas Harper, Young Adults Sheila Herron, Health Dr. Rhoda Murray and LGBTQ+ Garland Gravely.
The year has started off with the continuing challenge of Covid-19, a new administration in the White House, an economic crisis, plus other daily challenges, at the Roanoke Branch NAACP we will continue to focus on children receiving a quality education, good jobs, an equitable legal system and continue to build our strong community. We will not just be dreaming of better days for all, we will be making it real one victory at a time.
