Roanoke City has kicked off a “No Need to Speed” awareness campaign by hosting a one-mile walking tour to discuss pedestrian safety improvements and traffic speed issues on the campaign’s priority corridors on Tuesday, June 22 at 5:30 p.m. Discussions were held at key locations along the walk, John P. Fishwick Middle School, 1004 Montrose Ave., SE, with parking at the Belmont Park Baseball Field. This walking route was: 9th Street SE, Montrose Ave., SE to Tazewell Ave., SE (out and back).
Topics include: Highlights from the Transportation Alternatives Project; recent improvements from the Pedestrian Action Plan Project; and Implementation of future pedestrian safety measures at key intersections
Prior to the walk remarks were made by City officials and community partners including: Dwayne D’Ardenne, Transportation Division Manager, Roanoke City; Joseph Cobb, Council Member, past Vice-Mayor; Sam Roman, Chief of Police, City of Roanoke Police Department and Tessa Price-Clarke, Salvation Army, Roanoke
Participants also included representatives of the Southeast Action Forum, City officials and members of the community.
