The Community Youth Program (CYP) at St. John’s is pleased to announce the appointment of Mia Sappingfield as its new Executive Director.
Mia joins CYP with extensive experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, and community engagement. Most recently, she served as Director of Development at the West End Center for Youth, where she led strategic fundraising efforts, strengthened donor relationships, and helped sustain programs serving children and families across the Roanoke Valley. Her background also includes experience as a small business owner in childcare, giving her a hands-on understanding of the needs of children, families, and educators alike.
“I am incredibly honored to join the Community Youth Program at St. John’s,” said Sappingfield. “CYP has a strong legacy of caring for children and supporting families, and I’m excited to build on that foundation alongside our dedicated staff, volunteers, and church community. I believe deeply in creating spaces where young people feel safe, valued, and empowered to grow.”
CYP at St. John’s has long been a trusted presence in the community, providing after-school programming, enrichment opportunities, and a nurturing environment for children to learn and thrive. Under Mia’s leadership, the organization looks forward to strengthening partnerships, expanding visibility, and continuing to meet the evolving needs of the families it serves.
St. John’s leadership expressed enthusiasm for Mia’s appointment, noting her passion, warmth, and strategic mindset as key assets for the program’s future.
