Sports Club meeting Postponed
Due to the weather conditions Roanoke Valley Sports Club meeting has been postponed to Monday, Feb. 22 at the Salem Civic Center with meeting activities still beginning at 5:45 p.m. Dave Odom, former ACC and SEC basketball coach, will still be the featured speaker.
Odom began his college-coaching career as assistant coach at Wake Forest University in 1976. After three years at Wake Forest, he became head coach at East Carolina University. In 1982, he returned to the ACC as assistant coach of the Virginia Cavaliers, and then in 1989 he became head coach of the Wake Forest team. He became head coach of the South Carolina University team in 2001, retiring in 2008.
Odom spent 22 years as a head coach in collegiate basketball conferences winning 406 total games. He was named ACC coach of the year in 1991, 1994 and 1995, plus SEC coach of the year in 2004.
Anyone who had signed up for the original meeting should contact Joyce Montgomery at 354-6751, or Maggie Drewry at 353-1103 to confirm attendance at the new meeting date. Also anyone not a member of the Sports Club and is interested in attending the new meeting should also call Joyce Montgomery or Maggie Drewry as soon as possible.
