The Roanoke NAACP Youth Council held its annual election on Sunday, April 24 and new officers were elected. The Nominating Committee under the guidance of Co-Advisor, Lorena Wilson, presented a challenging slate of officers with the following results; NAACP Branch President Brenda Hale installed the new 2016-2017 officers on Sunday, May 22, President – Kenai Hunt; First Vice President – Phazhon Nash; Second Vice President – A’Ron Wilson; Secretary – Beyonce Menefee; Asst. Secretary – Ruth Payne; Treasurer – Aaryana Webb; Advisors – Gloria Randolph-King and Lorena Wilson.
The Youth Council is very appreciative of the community’s support though the past year. Many witnessed 20 graduating members as they stated their respective college plans after graduation and received their NAACP Kente stoles during the NAACP Citizen of the Year Award Banquet on Friday, May 6.
A special thanks was extended to past officers, which included: Immediate Past President, Bradley Smith; Vice President, Morgan Hancock, Secretary. Kai Washington-Brown; Asst. Secretary, Kameron Washington-Brown and Treasurer, Cameron Johnson for the work they accomplished during the past year.
Praise was given to all of the faithful chapter chairpersons and members for their dedicated service.
The Youth council meets the 4th Sunday of every month at 6 p.m. in the Lawson Building. New members are always encouraged to join. Great things are happening!
