Community Health Promoter Programs (CHPPs)—30-hour training programs are wellness initiatives, currently provided by the Anchor of Community Foundation. The program is based on the Helping Hands Community Health Promoter Program.
During the program professional community educators teach adult volunteers about optimal whole-body wellness, determinants contributing to chronic diseases, basic health related skills associated with health promotion and disease prevention, information to assist others in locating health care and community resources and skills regarding the healthcare delivery system.
Attendants who successfully complete the program will be empowered to alter their lifestyles and practice healthier behaviors due to knowledge and skills learned.
Dr. Royster will share how community health workers (CHWs) are integrated in the health care delivery system and how they will be used in a coordination-of-care model with United Way’s Healthy Roanoke Valley HUB.
Vice-Mayor Anita James-Price will welcome attendees followed by other speakers from New Horizons Healthcare, Carilion Clinic, United Way’s Healthy Roanoke Valley and IPHI representatives.
