This year, long time friends met in Washington DC for their annual “college girlfriends weekend.” Pictured standing at the White House exit, are Michele Cooper, Velma Wyman, Jan Mouzon, Dianne Johnson, Devorah Thomas-James and Cheryl Manning. Dianne had not been with this group in over 40 years.
The White House tour was beautiful, exciting and brought on several “ooh/aah” moments. But just before entering the building it was even more exciting to see “Marine One,” the presidential helicopter, come in for a landing on the White House lawn to take President Obama to another location. These ladies also toured the newly-opened National Museum of African American History and Culture. From the trans-Atlantic slave trade to modern day music, sports and pop culture, the Museum exhibits were teeming with pictures, artifacts and streaming videos, some filled with sadness, others with celebration. This iconic building should be a must-see for everyone, especially our children.
At dinner one evening, they all toasted and reminisced about mutual friend Pat Thomas who usually traveled with the group, but had passed away earlier this year.
Plans are already in the works for a 2017 trip to Toronto!
