People are still talking about the Black Girls Really Rocked show presented by the Roanoke Chapter of Continental Societies, Inc. on Saturday, Feb. 25, in the William Fleming High School auditorium. This was their 6th production and the best one yet.
This scholarship fund raising program recognized nine area women who have been positive role models and public servants who have made and continue to make an impact within the Roanoke Valley. In addition, four high school females who are making a difference in their communities were honored with the 2017 M.A.D.D. GIRLS Making A Distinct Difference” awards. Each honoree’s beautiful picture and profile was displayed on the screen as they were being honored.
Neesey Payne and Melinda Payne (unrelated) were the delightful and entertaining mistresses of ceremonies, as members of the Continentals presented each honoree with a beautiful award.
For the opening act, the audience was treated to a brief fashion show by Garland Gravely’s Fashionista models with creative designs by April Ward and two performances by the organization’s Continental Angels dancers, choreographed by Kai-Washington-Brown and Natalie Bonilla. As a special treat, one of the honorees, Dana Pannell, sang one of her original songs from her recent album.
The Roanoke Chapter of Continental Societies, Inc., is a public service organization with a mission to create environments within our community that will empower children to have access to quality and appropriate opportunities in order to reach their optimal potential. They are very appreciative of all the support received from the community through donations, ticket sales, ads and patrons.
Congratulation is extended to program chair, Linda Journiette and members for a “Really, Really Rocking” production. Donna Lee is local Continentals chapter president.
