An explosive Black History Month was experienced at Eureka Recreation Center this year! The excitement kicked off with individual presentations from each of the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. The presentations were centered on any influential African American person that has impacted history in the past and/or present. Their hard work and research made learning our history fun and exciting for all.
The K-2nd graders put on an excellent performance based on the book entitled “Rosa Parks” by Courtney Baker. This reenactment brought an epic moment in time to life while telling Rosa Parks amazing story that changed history by making equality on public transportation a reality. Another delightful presentation was made by Mr.George Bowles and The Sensational Gospel Group: The Moyer Brothers! also did an immaculate job of bringing history to life by sharing so many unknown facts about our culture. They put on a wonderful performance filled with music, games and trivia that kept everyone singing, laughing and winning prizes.
The grand finale of the month of celebration was performed by the beautiful and unique Girl’s Group, The Lady Butterfly’s, who offered an inspiring rendition with movement to Maya Angelou’s poem, “And Still I Rise.”
The Celebration of Black History could never be condensed into one month, but what fun was had bringing awareness of so many heroic people who changed much of the way of life as we live it today. This awareness everyday should be continued everyday that more people might be aware of those who paved our way to become the future historians of tomorrow!
