On Saturday, May 18, 2024, the Virginia Junior Olympic State Championships took place in Alexandria, VA, serving as a pivotal qualifier for the upcoming National Summer Festival Tournament in Wichita, KS, this June. Champ’s Gym, a division of Melrose Athletic Club, Inc., proudly showcased the talents of two young boxers who delivered outstanding performances.

Jamarion “Chucky” Henderson, 14, entered the 119-pound Intermediate category and was declared the champion after his opponent withdrew from the final bout. Despite facing a tough match against Ethan Hong, 15, from Lion’s Den Boxing Academy, Chucky fought valiantly, losing in a challenging battle. However, his earlier victory secured him the gold medal and a spot at the Nationals, highlighting his resilience and skill.

Bryson “Rocky B” Mank, 14, competed in the 125-pound Intermediate Championship against Micah Swindell of C4 Boxing Club. Demonstrating remarkable prowess and determination, Rocky B dominated all three rounds, winning by unanimous decision. His commanding performance underscored his readiness for the national stage.

These achievements not only reflect the dedication and hard work of the young athletes but also the exceptional training and support provided by the coaches at Champ’s Gym. The guidance and mentorship from their coaches have been instrumental in preparing Chucky and Rocky B for success at such a competitive level.

Champ’s Gym extends heartfelt congratulations to Chucky and Rocky B for their impressive victories and for representing the City of Roanoke with pride. The entire community and gym family celebrate their achievements and eagerly look forward to their performances at the Nationals this summer.

Go Chucky and Rocky B! Bring home the gold from Nationals!
