Roanoke City sanitation worker Joe Brewer, Jr. was recently awarded the Public Works Hero Award during the 57th Annual Conference & Equipment Show of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter America Public Works Association held recently in Baltimore, MD. The Public Works Hero Award, the first ever awarded, recognized Joe for his service “Beyond the Call of Duty” in the Roanoke community.

As a member of Williams Memorial Baptist Church, Joe serves as Deacon, Trustee, Usher and is a Sunday School member. Those who know him can attest to his love for fishing.

He is the son of Rowena S. Brewer and is married to Jacynthia Marsh-Brewer, both of whom are extremely proud of him and of this recognition.
