The 21st season of the Colonel’s Theatre Company opened Friday and Saturday, March 20-21 on the stage of William Fleming High School’s Dickinson Auditorium. The well chosen presentation, Leap of Faith, is unquestionably one you can not afford to miss! It transcends all ages and barriers.
Theatre Company Director Larry Van Deventer, in welcoming the near-capacity audience to the opening performances stated, “I chose Leap of Faith as The Colonel’s Theatre Company’s 2015 Spring production because of its inspiring message and show-stopping musical numbers,” performed expertly by some 50+ cast and crew members.
The fresh-off-Broadway play was also chosen because of its many themes written into it of loss, grief, betrayal, hardship, disappointment, all universal human experiences that, as witnessed in this fantastic production, can all be healed through the tremendous power of love and hope when willing to take that Leap of Faith.
Having been fortunate enough to be seated with the grandparents of one of the main female characters, her multi-talents are more understandable once discovering her musical family roots–practically the entire Randolph Family of musicians.
The outstanding performances of so many in the production preclude singling out certain cast members. Of particular note, however must be the unparalleled performance of leading characters Christian Bryant and Cara Basham as the brother/sister duo who took their healing/revival show on the road at an early age to escape a history of abuse and to capitalize on the brother’s natural showmanship. He was superb! Of comparable honorable mention is the mother/daughter team with the young daughter (in wheelchair) delivering the clearest monologue (although brief) of which every word could be clearly heard every time.
The fabulous Angels of Mercy Choir, revival attendees and “heeled” ones, the entire cast and participating audience are all fantastic! But don’t take my word for it.
“Leap of Faith will be back on William Fleming’s Dickinson Auditorium Stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 27-28. Tickets, at a mere $10 for adults and $5 for all students, may be purchased at the William Fleming Main Office during school days and at the box office on night of the show–if you don’t mind standing in line.
