The Roanoke Chapter Continental Societies, Inc. and members of the Continental Angels Girls Club attended the December 4 production of “Scrooge” at the Berglund Performing Arts Center. Other family members were in attendance for the grand production presented by New Century Church.
The Continental Angels Girls Club is a mentorship program for eighteen young ladies six through seventeen years of age. Meetings are held on the fourth Saturday of each month at the Lansdowne Community Center. Programs of interests involve the core principles of the organization: (HEER) Health, Education, Employment, Recreation plus Arts and Humanities.
Committee members from each facet present programs to the girls on a rotational basis. The Health Committee shared facts about healthy eating, exercising and asthma. The Education Committee started the Angels Book Club which encourages the girls to read books of interest. Next spring, the Employment Committee will host a Career Fair at the center.
In October, the Recreation Committee sponsored a Halloween skating party for the girls at Skate Center of Roanoke Valley at which all the members were clad in their Continental Angels T-shirts. They bonded, skated, enjoyed pizza and had a wonderful time together.
A Christmas Party was held for club members on Saturday, Dec. 20, at which games were played, gifts exchanged and a delicious luncheon enjoyed by all.
Continentals QuoVadis Washington-Brown and Continental Donna W. Lee are co-chairpersons for the Continental Angels Club. Continental Gloria Randolph-King is president of the local organization.
