Members of the Roanoke Chapter Continental Societies, Inc. are proud to announce the awarding of scholarships to eight very deserving high school students at its June chapter meeting on Saturday, June 16, at High Street Baptist Church with Continental Elsie Scott hosting.
Scholarship recipients, their parents and the colleges they plan to attend are: William Fleming; Sheridan Saunders; parents, Thelma Saunders and Stacey Ollie, Virginia Western; Valedictorian Tiana Horace, parents-Tamekia and Christopher Horace, Duke University; Majesty Jones, parents -Leonard and Verna Hapili-Jones, Virginia State University.
From Patrick Henry: Yebelee Willis-Desta, parents; Jerome Willis and Saba Desta, attending VCU; Cardenas Nelly Tapia, parents- Jesus Cardenas and Raque, University of VA.
From Northside: Phazhon Nash, parent-Tanisha Nash, George Mason University; William Byrd, Co-Valedictorian Alexis West, parents- Kisha and Walter West, James Madison University and Hidden Valley: Neya Williams parents-Eric Williams and Shameka Washington, attending Radford University.
Several of the youth, unable to attend on that Saturday, received their scholarship at the home of President Lee with scholarship chairperson, Gloria Randolph-King on June 26.
The Roanoke Chapter is also proud to celebrate completing another extraordinary year! The chapter’s accomplishments include last year’s “Second Annual Black and White Evening of Jazz” and the presentation of a very successful “Black Girls Really Rock” scholarship fundraiser in April.
This year’s 62nd National Continental Conclave was held in Hampton, VA, June 27-July 1. First Vice President Continental Loretta Freeman served as delegate and President Donna Lee served as National Credentials chair.
Planning for next year’s programs will take place at the chapter’s annual retreat on Saturday, August 18, from 10 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the Eureka Recreation Center.
The Continentals salute all scholarship recipients and deeply appreciate the community continuous financial support.
