The Roanoke Chapter Continental Societies, Inc. kicked off Red Ribbon Week meeting with twelve members of the Continental Angels Club on Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Gainsboro Library. Sheila Lythgoe from the Roanoke Area Youth Substance Abuse Coalition (RAYSAC) spoke to the girls about “Substance Abuse Prevention,” that they learn more about the importance of “ saying no to drugs.”
The girls were divided into three teams with each team allowed to give themselves a name before playing the game of Jeopardy, with the categories to earn money for their team: Tobacco, Marijuana, Alcohol, other Drugs and a Random category.
Each member on the winning team earned a set of earphones and all participants, (including Continental sisters,) received the RAYSAC bag of goodies. After reciting and signing the Red Ribbon Pledge of “Saying No to Drugs,” a healthy lunch was served. Continentals Natalie Bonilla and Hazel Jones are co-chairpersons for the Continental Angels Club; Continental Linda Journiette assisted with the luncheon. Continental Donna Lee is president of the local chapter.
