The merry month of May is upon us. A month that marks the official entrance of moderate, tropical temperatures, as Old Man Winter is forced to release his final grip with the season’s final frost generally hitting around the eighth to tenth of May.
May Day celebrations were once a popular festive occurrence throughout this nation and abroad and many local and state elections are held in May.
Never in its youthful history (in comparison) has there been so much energy and emotion engendered over America’s first serious African-American contender; the nation’s serious woman for the position.
How very sad that such a cherished opportunity for all was so bitterly divisive. Never in the history of man has the waging of war in mankind’s young adulthood threatened the annihilation of so many through such sophisticated weaponry. Never before has there been a greater need for leadership by persons of less aggressive nature currently one, a member of a minority race, a woman, victim of centuries of respective oppression.
Ironically the Baha’i Administrative Order would rejoice over such an ideal outcome.
“The moral and psychological climate necessary to enable our nation to establish social justice and to contribute to global peace will be created only when women attain full partnership with men in all fields of endeavor,” we read in the many Baha’i Holy Writings on the equality of women and men. “Force is losing its dominance and mental alertness, intuition and the spiritual qualities of love and service in which woman is strong, are gaining ascendancy…when women participate fully and equally in the affairs of the world, war will cease, further state the Baha’i Holy Writings.
Also, so strongly emphasized is the importance of the role of the African Americans role in developing a peaceful world civilization that in its administrative process Baha’i Elections stress that should a tie exist between two individuals and one is a minority (in this country) the election automatically goes to the African American.
“As the black pupil gives sight to the eye, so shall the Black people bring religious sight to the world.”
The long-standing and deeply rooted conditions of prejudice and inequality must be eliminated. To overcome such conditions require the exercise of nothing short of “genuine love, extreme patience, true humility, consummate tact, sound initiative, mature wisdom and deliberate, persistent and prayerful effort.
This critical month of May is a perfect time to move decisively toward the end. Investigate!
