Delegate Sam Rasoul

ROANOKE, VA – Delegate Sam Rasoul (HD-38) has been named the Chair of the House of Delegates Education Committee by Speaker-designee Don Scott. Delegate Rasoul looks forward to addressing the challenges facing Virginia’s students, teachers, and schools as Chair of the Education Committee.

Virginia’s public schools are chronically underfunded; with per-pupil spending and teacher pay consistently remaining lower than the national average. Del. Rasoul firmly believes that it is long-past time to increase investment to create a world-class education for our children. Furthermore, he plans to work with the Education Committee to continue investments in our student’s mental health, and expand the community school model which provides holistic wraparound services to ensure children are successful inside and outside of the classroom.

“I am looking forward to ensuring that Virginia’s children receive the best education possible. It is important that our students, teachers, and staff are provided all the resources necessary to thrive at every school across the Commonwealth,” said Delegate Rasoul, “It’s time we raise teacher pay above the national average to retain Virginia’s amazing teachers. We also must invest in our school construction shortfall to make sure our students have safe and effective learning environments. As someone who has substitute taught, I know the value of expanding innovative programs, like the community school model, to bring critical services to our students, and expand our investment in mental health care access.”

This session will be the fifth session Del. Rasoul has served as a member of the Education Committee. He has long been a voice in the House of Delegates for increasing investment in Virginia’s schools, raising teacher pay, and expanding access to mental health care for our children.
