The Roanoke Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. had the pleasure of treating the children who performed at the 2015 Annual Doggy Fashion Show to a performance by Mummenschanz, a Swiss Theatrical Troupe, on February 6, at the Jefferson Center.
The Jabberwock Kids and other participants in the Doggy Fashion Show shared an awesome afternoon together being mesmerized by amazing “non-verbal theatrical language, consisting of only objects, mask objects, just bodies, object-bodies evolving against a black background thus composing a playful paralanguage that can be understood by all.”
These children are eager participants in the arts and are striving towards scholastic excellence in addition to other activities. Zareyana and Zakiihyathe daughters of Matthew and Tiara Gammon, are honor roll students. These sisters recently debuted in their church’s dramatization of The Christmas Story. Omarion, the son of Morris and Dashon Jones, thoroughly enjoys the arts and plays basketball for the Greater Southwest Athletics.
Kennady and Kaiden are the children of Marcus and Kianna Wade. Kennady is an honor roll student who sings with the Roanoke Valley Children’s Choir and performs with the Roanoke Children’s Theater while Kaiden is a straight A student who recently performed with the Broadway touring group in 42nd Street at the Berglund Center and also at Heritage High School in Lynchburg.
McCrae is the son of Cora Carpenter-Small and is an honor roll student who loves to draw and build robots. Laila and Lauryn are the daughters of Anthony and Keisha Smith. Laila takes a theatre class and is practicing tumbling to prepare for the Fame All-Stars Cheer Team and Lauryn wants to take ballet and is a ballerina at heart.
The Sorority delights in providing opportunities to enhance academics and stimulate the imaginations and creativity of our youth. The children are displaying their chocolate dog gifts from Doggy Fashion Show model Treazur.
Keisha Smith is the Jabberwock Kids coordinator. Laurice Hampton is chair of the sorority’s Arts and Letter Commission and Diane Jones is the chapter president.
