TAP Celebrates Black History Month

Total Action for Progress (TAP) will host its annual Black History Celebration at 10 a.m on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at St. John’s Episcopal Church. The theme for the event is “Healing Body and Soul in These Trouble Times.”

Also honored will be Dr. Deneen Evans, professor of Social Work at Radford University, for her service with the Radford University community and her 25 years of experience as a practitioner in the human services field; Dr. Wendell Butler, dentist (retired), veteran, and community activist, for his service in the United States Air Force and his professional career in general practice dentistry; Rev. Dr. William Lee for his contributions in healthcare as founder of the New Horizons community healthcare facility and committed involvement within the community and the church; and Mrs. JoAnne Poindexter, journalist and community activist, for her professional career as a writer for the Roanoke Times and her community activism.

Others scheduled to participate on the program include: Kai Washington-Brown, Rhiana Roper, Sam Lundsford, This Valley Works students and staff at TAP, and Head Start children.
