Fascism and the mainstream media

February 9, 2026

It is time for the mainstream media to join the resistance. Better late than never.  (Robert Hubbell)

Albert Einstein warned that the time would come when the very rich so completely controlled the means of communication that it would be almost impossible for ordinary people to make informed decisions.  All day, every day, I get “MUST READS,” “NEED TO KNOW,” THE POST MOST, etc., where someone in the media has decided what information I require, I assume, to be a knowledgeable, responsible American citizen.

Even though Trump is totally despicable, given the fact that he is currently occupying the US president’s chair, and is the leader of still the most powerful nation on earth, everything he says, no matter how harmful, audacious and odious, is reported.

There are many truth-tellers writing Op-Ed pieces, for example, but they don’t get instant and constant headlines and “viral” sound-bite treatment in the media. Moreover, media and Internet messages about Trumpists’ activities may very well be convincing the public of the weakness and incompetence of the opposition party, the Democrats.

America’s mainstream media entities have functioned in effect as Donald Trump’s own public relations firms.  By widely publicizing Trump’s every evil, duplicitous, racist, misogynistic and stupid utterance and act, those news sources have effectively solidified Trump’s support, added to his support, or, as Stochastic Terrorism, scared the hell out of his opponents.  There does not appear to be balance in the coverage about what he is and that the primary intention of his exhortations and actions is to transform America into his Fascist regime.

Stochastic Terrorism is the practice by despotic leaders of publicly demonizing a person or group, and provoking their supporters to commit violent acts or other abuses against the despots’ targets.  It refers also to the practice of inducing such fear within individuals that they refrain from saying or doing anything that can be interpreted as supporting groups or causes that are reviled by the “leader.”

Early on, social media platforms caved to Trump, allowing his vicious authoritarian rants to be magnified unimpeded.

As a consequence of the foregoing, the power centers in DC are not truly separate and independent from the Trumpists’ control, and the acquiescent disease has gone viral across all leadership entities in the country.

Influencers of all kinds and at all levels, particularly local, should relentlessly attack America’s Domestic Enemies. None of them should not be given a pass because they drape themselves in the US flag, carry a cross or Bible, or mouth patriotic euphemisms.  Just as the Devil can quote scripture as well as the best of preachers, false patriots can also mimic true American patriots. Be not deceived.

The most effective means of continuing to oppress, and exploit members of the First People/Indigenous people, the descendants of America’s Slave Class, women, and the Poor is to convince the members that they have no power; that there is nothing they can do to improve their condition in their environment.

Keep in mind, moreover, Langston Hughes’s comment: “Fascism is a new name for that kind of terror the Negro has always faced in America.  This kind of terrorism is extending more and more to groups of peoples whose skins are not black.”

Trump’s Deadly Quadrangle — the House, the Senate, the SCOTUS, and the Cabinet — is susceptible to a major change with a high voter turnout rate.  Whether it will be neutralized or not stands to be seen, but the change that is possible should be publicized widely and constantly. The eviction of Trump in 2020 proved convincingly that the American people can respond appropriately. We must emphasize as well that 190 million voter eligible Americans did not choose Trump in 2024.

The critical pivot point in America’s salvation – Midterm Elections, November 3, 2026 — that will position America toward a reclamation of commitment to Democratic Principles, or sound the victory knell for Fascism, is only about 270 days away. Our condition is unprecedented in our history, and requires an unprecedented response.  As often as possible when we work to motivate Americans to fulfill their enfranchisement duty, we should include in our commentaries the two most important action steps Americans can take: to be resolutely prepared to vote in November and to encourage others to do the same, without specifying a political party or candidate. The lean of the self-disenfranchisers toward the Democratic party is a fact!

If we don’t see a massive defeat of the two legs of the Deadly Quadrangle on November 3, 2026 – the House and the Senate — the 2028 election will not matter.
